It's described as a cabin, but this extremely popular house is designed as a year–round 3–bedroom home. A 12'–deep screened porch wraps around the entire rear (or front!) of this compact house, and a garret on the upper level is a couple's realm with a fireplace and great light and views. The rustic interior features exposed fine wood details throughout.

This small house would work perfectly as a vacation home or a cabin. The exterior look is perfectly suited for a natural environment, and it has a deck that wraps around the front and one side. Even though it's only 1,246 sf, there's room for up to three small bedrooms on the main and upper levels, and you can add one more if you build the basement level. This house was designed for a high elevation site in the Rocky Mountains, so it's ready for any kind of weather.

As you can see, this small house was designed to be built in a natural setting. It has an entry porch in front, a covered porch on one side, and a screened porch on the other. It also provides great views, particularly to the rear. The living room has a ceiling that vaults all the way to the roofline, and a large fireplace for cold evenings. The master suite is on the main level, and there are two additional bedrooms and a loft space on the upper level. If you choose to build the basement level, it's designed to provide another bedroom and bath, a family room, an office/den, and a laundry room.

This rustic cabin can be as small as 635 square feet or as large as 850. There are actually five different versions included in the plans. All five have sleeping lofts on either side that are accessed by ship's ladders, and all are vaulted in the living areas on the main level. Each of the five versions has a unique floor plan, so if you're looking to build a small cabin, hopefully one will fit your needs.

The clean lines, elegant proportions, and sensitive way that this cabin sits on the land earned it an NWAIA Citation Award and publication in The Cabin Book, 2004, Universe Publishing. This simple one–room, timber–frame cabin measures 22' x 30' with a 10' wide wraparound deck. It is rich with wood details at both the interior and exterior.
