Description

From the covered front stoop, a glass door opens to a unique open foyer space. It has a coat closet in the far left corner, and a side window across from it for extra light, and a mudroom space to the right. The mudroom has coat hooks around its outer edges, two windows in the corner, and a pocket door that opens to a guest powder room that's part of the master bath. A door to the left of the entry opens to a large laundry room with another door that opens to the side deck; and a glass door straight ahead that (if installed) turns this all into an air–lock entryway.

Beyond this second door you pass stairs to the upper and (optional) lower level before entering the great room. The ceiling in this room, like most of the main level, is set at 8', but the far half of the room is vaulted, from 17' at the rear wall to nearly 20'. The outer wall of both the great room and the dining space is lined with windows that are 3' wide and 6' tall. The wall at the end of the great room on the right has a two–sided fireplace that is shared with the master bedroom. The other end of the room is open to the dining area.

The kitchen is next to and open to the dining space, separated only by a peninsula counter with a range on top and a raised counter on the outer edge for casual eating or serving. There's a pantry off the kitchen, four windows in the corner where the sinks are, and a glazed door between it and the dining area opens to a screened porch for outdoor dining. Half of the kitchen ceiling vaults up all the way to the roofline of the second floor, where a window in a dormer allows more natural light to flow into the room.

A door off the great room opens to the master suite. The bedroom has two 6'–tall windows for views to the rear, two highly placed short windows above the bed for additional light, and a dressing area between "his" and "hers" walk–in closets. The bath features a shower large enough for two with a vaulted ceiling above it, and two separated vanities.

At the landing of the upper floor you're facing built–in shelves, with a linen closet and a bathroom just to the left, and a door on the right that opens to a large "away" room. Each end of the room has a built–in seat beneath a window, and there are two more windows in the middle. A lockable door opens to a plant shelf that can be seen from the stairway and the kitchen. A loft space on this level has a low wall (filled with bookshelves) that looks down to the great room below. A door on one end opens to a bedroom with views to the side and the rear, and a large walk–in closet. A small eave storage space is in the corner of the room, while a larger space can be accessed from either the closet or the away room.

At the other end of the loft, there is a sunny office space that could be used as a bedroom or a guest room. As designed, there's a built–in seat beneath a pair of windows on one wall, and on the opposite wall there are built–in shelves and a desk that wraps around the corner. Shutters above the shelves allow more natural light in along with a view to the front through a large window in a dormer, and another window and a glass door look and open out to an open balcony space.

If you choose to build the basement level, you can add up to 999 sf of living space plus a mechanical room/root cellar. There's room for two additional bedrooms with a living room/den between them, and a full bath. The plans also include drawings for a two–car detached garage with a large workshop area. A pair of 3'–wide doors provide easy access to the workshop, and a set of pull–down stairs in the ceiling provide access to attic storage.

Construction Info
The plans for this house call for ICF (insulated concrete form) exterior walls for the basement and the first floor, and for 2x6 stud walls on the second floor.
