Description
This quintessential Nantucket House showcases many of the features that make this island's architecture so appealing: natural weathered shingled exterior, plenty of decks, porches (& an outdoor shower) to encourage outdoor living, and lots of light & ventilation to help bring nature inside. The shingles on the walls & roof, along with natural wood decks & trim, not only help the home to blend into its landscape, but also minimize maintenance costs over the life of the structure.
Straightforward lines and basic shapes with modular dimensions yield a home that is comfortable to live in, flexible in use and economical to build. This home was designed for adaptability. On the inside, the large open space surrounding the Kitchen allows for numerous uses to occur in this main public space. The full open basement could be easily converted into additional bedrooms, a family room, an office, or any combination thereof.
On the outside, the simple gable forms were specifically designed for accepting future horizontal and/or vertical additions. Cathedral ceilings abound in this house. They are standard throughout the entire second floor, as well as at the first floor Living Room. The subsequent exposed collar ties & other structural beams, contribute to the spacious open feeling.
Natural wood & stone floors, along with painted wood wainscoting throughout, are easy-maintenance surfaces and help to create the warm, natural environment. This house capitalizes on simple forms and tall, light-filled spaces to maximize both elegance and affordability in one compact, attractive home.
Foundation Info
This house was originally designed to have a basement foundation. However, if you prefer a crawlspace or a slab foundation, these are fairly simple and inexpensive changes that your builder can often make for you. If the basement design is not displayed in the Floor Plans, it's because it is unfinished.
