Description

This design has been published in numerous journals, including the Summer 2001 issue of "Fine Homebuilding", Annual Issue on Houses, and the Jan./Feb. 2002 issue of "Solar Today". Originally designed for a neighborhood in Martha's Vineyard, Island CoHousing provides variations of a basic two–bedroom home, with options that include a third bedroom and a fourth bedroom, which range from 1,094 to 1,788 square feet.

As you come off the covered entry porch, you enter a foyer with a stairwell straight ahead. The basic plan has an open kitchen and living room, with a door to a storage/laundry room. The laundry room can also be modified to be a bathroom. Upstairs there are two bedrooms and a full bath. Option B has the house extended next to the foyer, which creates a dining area space, and has a full bath instead of a laundry room. The dining area provides an alcove space upstairs, which may be used as a reading nook or office space. Option C has the house extended at the rear to create a third bedroom. Upstairs, you may build a fourth bedroom above the third bedroom, which results in Option D. And Option E extends the living area and the third bedroom.

In the original design, a neighborhood of sixteen homes was built from variations of the basic plan. Whether you are a developer/builder, or interested in building your own home, the different plan options allow for customizations, and provide flexibility for future expansions.
