Description

This home has a simple layout, and is designed to be constructed from adobe block. The adobe provides an economical building material, and provides thermal mass storage, which will keep energy costs down. The patio wall that loops around the east end of the house leaves room for a nice garden or patio space. With an outdoor grill or oven, you can grow, cook, and eat your dinner, all in the pleasant southeast courtyard.

The front door opens on an entryway, with views to the living/dining room beyond a stepped adobe wall. In the living/dining room, a hearth platform angles around a corner, creating a base for a wood stove or fireplace. You can extend the hearth to create a seating 'banco', or cut it short to leave more space for an entertainment center. The high–ceilinged main room opens to the south with a patio door assembly, which is almost 14' wide, and a single door leads east to the shaded patio. A counter on one side, and pantry and closet on the other, separate the kitchen from the living room. To the west, a short hallway leads past a bath and laundry center, separating the two bedrooms from the living area for peace and privacy.

Foundation Info
This house was originally designed to have a slab foundation. You can of course change it to a full or partial basement, or to a crawlspace, but you will need the help of a local builder or designer, and the new foundation plans should be reviewed by a structural engineer prior to construction.
