Description
The exterior of this home is anchored by brick veneer at the bottom, and finished above with a combination of cedar shingles and stucco. With its combination of small paned windows, exposed timber framing, cross gabled roofs, and dormers, it reflects the historic qualities of the traditional Tudor home. This house can be easily modified to include a full in–law unit on the main floor. If this is of interest to you, please read the section near the end of this Description titled In–Law Unit.
The front porch is framed by two newel posts, which each hold a lantern to light the front steps. The foyer is two stories high, giving you views to the second floor balcony above. To the left is a formal dining room, and straight ahead is a great room with a vaulted ceiling. The great room has a fireplace flanked by built–ins, and is open to the kitchen, which has a large work island in the center. A breakfast nook with a vaulted ceiling and a built–in bench has windows along three walls, which bring in plenty of sunshine to the kitchen, as well as outdoor views. A door from the great room opens onto an outdoor terrace, which you can view from the windows that line the rear wall. Off of the kitchen, there are a pantry and an atrium space, which provides a space for a desk and additional cabinetry. A pair of doors from the atrium leads to a private outdoor space that is covered with a trellis above for shade. From the atrium, you enter the rear hall, which connects to the front foyer. At the rear hall there are a laundry room, a coat closet, a powder room, and a door to the three–car garage. To the right of the great room is a private master suite, which features a vaulted ceiling that reaches over 15' high. The master bath, which leads to a large walk–in closet, is luxurious with a whirlpool tub, a separate shower, and a private toilet room.
As you come off the upstairs, the balcony wraps around the foyer space, so you have views to the lower floor from all four sides. There is also an overlook that is open to the great room below, and a built–in window seat, which looks out to the front, that gives you a place to sit and enjoy the balcony. Two bedrooms share a full bath, and a third bedroom has its own private full bath. A game room is also on the upper floor, as well as an optional exercise room.
Foundation Info
This house was originally designed to have a crawlspace foundation. However, if you prefer a basement or slab foundation, these are fairly simple and inexpensive changes that your builder can often make for you.
In–Law Unit
Convert the Master Suite on the main floor, including the bath and dressing areas, into an in–law unit, and then turn the Game Room, Suite 4, and the exercise space upstairs into a Master Suite.
Please Note
This house was originally designed for a family in Charlotte, North Carolina, who (understandably) do not want another house just like theirs built nearby. If you're planning to build within a 50–mile radius of downtown Charlotte, the designer needs to approve the location – which he nearly always does – before he'll grant a copyright release allowing you to legally build the house. Just give us the address or location of your property, via email or phone –– and we'll get back to you right away.
Electronic Format
These plans were drawn using a well–known and highly respected architectural design software program called SoftPlan (version 13). This software can export the same files in .dwg format, so they can also be modified by anyone who uses AutoCAD, which is nearly universal. The CD for this plan includes the files in both SoftPlan and AutoCAD–ready .dwg, as well as in .pdf for easy viewing on your home or office computer.
