Description
This beautiful wood shingled home wraps around a central outdoor courtyard garden, which provides views to the rooms located in the center of the home. Rounded columns are found throughout the exterior, framing the covered entry porch, the breezeway leading to the three–car garage, and the rear covered terrace.
After coming in the entry hall from the front porch, a small vestibule to the left leads to a coat closet and a powder room, and a pair of doors to the right open onto a study. The study has angled walls with windows that face the front, and a pair of doors that open onto the outdoor breezeway. As you walk down the entry hall, you pass a stairwell on the left, and a formal dining room on the right. The two–story high formal dining room is open to the rear family room, and has glazed doors that look and walk out to the central outdoor garden. The family room has a central hearth to the left, and has full height windows flanking a pair of glazed doors that look and walk out to the covered terrace, which extends to a half–circle patio space. The family room is open to the kitchen, which also looks out to the courtyard garden, and has an L–shaped counter, a center work island with a stove and a prep sink, and a breakfast nook with a two–story ceiling, and doors to the covered terrace at the rear. From the kitchen, a small rear hall leads to a laundry room with a half–bath, a secondary stairwell to the upstairs, and a three–car garage, which has a small storage room. On the other side of the family room is the master suite. The master bedroom has a wall of windows that look out to the rear, and bring in plenty of natural light. A pair of glazed doors from the bedroom lead to the covered terrace, for private access and additional sunlight. The large master bath has a whirlpool tub located in the center, flanked by two separate vanity sinks, and also features a private toilet room, a separate shower, and two walk–in closets.
After climbing up the main stairwell, you find yourself on an oversized balcony that looks down at the dining room below. To the right, a door leads to a covered balcony that looks out to the front, and another door leads to a guest suite, which has angled walls and windows for multiple views. The guest room has its own private access to a full bath, which has a secondary door to the game room. The game room has a dormer with three windows that look out to the side, and a private stairwell to the rear hallway on the main floor. With the lower courtyard garden open to the exterior, the upper floor also wraps around the central garden space. At the other end of the game room, a pair of doors open onto a loft space, which has windows that look down to the courtyard garden, a balcony that looks down to the breakfast nook, and a door leading to attic storage. From the loft, the hallway circles back to the main stairwell and balcony, with doors leading to two more bedroom suites, each with its own dormer sitting area, full bath, and walk–in closet.
Foundation Info
This house was originally designed to have a crawlspace foundation. However, if you prefer a basement or slab foundation, these are fairly simple and inexpensive changes that your builder can often make for you.
Please Note
This house was originally designed for a family in Charlotte, North Carolina, who (understandably) do not want another house just like theirs built nearby. If you're planning to build within a 50–mile radius of downtown Charlotte, the designer needs to approve the location – which he nearly always does – before he'll grant a copyright release allowing you to legally build the house. Just give us the address or location of your property, via email or phone –– and we'll get back to you right away.
Electronic Format
These plans were drawn using a well–known and highly respected architectural design software program called SoftPlan (version 13). This software can export the same files in .dwg format, so they can also be modified by anyone who uses AutoCAD, which is nearly universal. The CD for this plan includes the files in both SoftPlan and AutoCAD–ready .dwg, as well as in .pdf for easy viewing on your home or office computer.
