Description
This second version of Classic Bungalow has four bedrooms instead of three, and the master bedroom is located on the main floor (which is unusual for a Craftsman style house). The den along with the coat room and closet in the original house is now the master bedroom and walk–in closet, and a master bath has been added to the rear of the house. A small library has been added off the dining room, and the upper floor – which still has three bedrooms and a playroom – has been reconfigured.
An 8'–deep covered porch spans the entire front of this classic Craftsman bungalow. As you enter the foyer there's a coat closet to your right and the stairs to the upper level straight ahead. There's a built–in bench beneath a window next to the closet, and the stairs have an open railing facing the foyer. As you step into the living room there's a large fireplace on the far wall, flanked by built–in shelves beneath windows. A trio of tall windows on your left look out to and through the front porch. The ceiling in this room – like all the others on the main level – are set at a comfortable 9'.
A wide cased opening separates the living room from the dining room and the kitchen. A bump–out in the exterior wall of the kitchen has three windows set above the sinks for natural light and views. There's a center island with a raised bar for casual eating or serving, and a built–in breakfast nook to one side. The nook has two windows in the corner – one that looks to the foyer, and another that looks to the living room.
Another wide cased opening is all that separates the kitchen from the dining room, and a narrower opening at the far end leads to the library. This room has built–in bookshelves on either side, and a built–in bench beneath a pair of windows. The small space with double doors off the dining room is described as a dish hutch in the plans. A vestibule off the kitchen provides access to a powder room, a mudroom with a closet and a bench, and the master suite. The bedroom has views to the side and rear, and the bath has both a tub (beneath a window) and a separate shower.
When you reach the top of the stairs to the upper level, you're facing a wide linen closet. The door to bedroom 1 is on the left, and the door to bedroom 2 is just past the closet. Each bedroom has plenty of windows for light and views. A lovely playroom is just off the landing, with doors at the far end that open to bedroom 3 and a laundry. These three rooms share a full bath. By the way, the dotted lines in bedrooms 1 and 3 indicate a narrow sloped portion of the ceiling that follows the roofline, which gives each room a feeling of uniqueness.
