Description
This smaller version of the original Summit Views home retains the look and feel of the original, inside and out. Same detailing and finishes, same luxurious environment, just less square footage which of course lowers the overall cost to build. The private study has been removed, as has the formal dining room – the view–wrapped hearth room has been converted to a dining room – but the upper plan still manages to accommodate an additional (fifth) bedroom.
The covered front porch is large enough to hold furniture, so you can relax and enjoy the front views. The entry foyer is wide and generous, with an open curved stairwell to the right. The curved stairwell allows an open semi–circle, which is open to all three levels, if you choose to build the basement level. As you walk to the living areas at the rear, you pass a coat closet and a powder room on your left. The living areas are all open to each other, so that you have views into all the spaces, which are framed and delineated to the eye by wooden posts. Across from the great room is a bar, which is conveniently located next to the open gourmet kitchen and the walk–in pantry.
The kitchen has plenty of workspace, with counters along three walls, and a center island that has a prep sink and room for casual dining. The dining room next to it has an optional two–sided fireplace, with the secondary side open to the rear deck, making it ideal for casual outdoor dining or relaxing. Doors on either side of the dining room open onto the covered deck, one portion of which has an outdoor grill area. The deck wraps around the house at the rear, providing multiple views and semi–private areas.
The dramatic great room is located a couple of steps down from the rest of the living area. It has a vaulted ceiling – rising from 16' to 19'6" – with exposed wood beams, a wood stove in one corner, and a built–in media cabinet in another. [If you prefer the fireplace from the original Summit Views, this change would be quite simple to make] Both outer walls of the great room are filled with picture windows topped by transom windows, so views and natural light are abundant. And a covered outdoor deck wraps all the way around the room.
A sliding door from the kitchen opens into a mudroom, which has a full bath, a coat closet, a utility closet, and room for built–ins. It would quite easy to modify the plan slightly to accommodate a washer/dryer if you prefer one on the main level. A door from the mudroom leads to an oversized three–car garage, which could have some space devoted to a workshop if needed.
There are two hallways off of the upper landing that lead to four bedrooms, a shared full bath with a separate room for the toilet and tub, a linen closet, and a laundry room with a prep sink. As you go down the hall to the master suite, you pass a balcony with views to the great room below. The master bedroom is very spacious, and has a vaulted ceiling, as well as a private deck. Sliding doors open into a long master bath with a Jacuzzi tub in one corner, a separate shower in the other corner, a private toilet room, and a generous–sized walk–in closet.
