A large curving covered front porch and open patio welcome you to this charming home. The front door – which is set at a 45–degree angle to the porch – opens to the foyer space. Double doors on the right open to an "away room" with a view to the front. This room has a closet, room for two built–in desks, and access to a half bath, so it would also work well as a guest room or a home office. Just to the left of the double doors is a stairway to an optional lower level that was left unfinished. If you don't need a basement, this space could become a coat closet with storage at the rear.

The great room is accessed directly from the foyer. The ceiling in this room vaults from 9' at the front of the house to 17'4" at the transition to the dining area, crossed by decorative exposed beams. Both outer walls in the great room – and extending through the dining space – are filled by windows with transom windows above them, and a bay at the front has a built–in window seat. A large gas fireplace in one corner can be enjoyed from both the great room and the dining room.

When you enter the dining space the roof drops to 9', which is maintained through the rest of the main level. A French door in the outer wall opens to a large patio where the original homeowner had a table for casual dining during warm days and nights and a hot tub for cold ones. Next to the dining area and open to it is the kitchen. Another windowed bay behind the sinks provides space for a window box. There's a pantry in one corner, a uniquely–shaped island/breakfast bar in the middle, and a nook for a small television.

A hallway between the kitchen and dining area that begins next to the stairs to the upper level passes a powder room on the left and a small mail drop/desk on the right before reaching the doors to the master suite. The master bedroom has two windows facing the rear, and an opening to the bath area passes "his" & "hers" closets on either side. The bath has two widely separated sinks (one of which has room for a seat or a vanity next to it), a soaking tub in the corner beneath a window (the small square next to the tub in the floor plans is a space for built–in shelves), a large shower with a glass block wall, and a private toilet that doubles as a guest powder room.

Across from the master bedroom there's a bench and coat closet conveniently located near the laundry room and the 3–car garage. Another door in the laundry opens to the front patio.

The spacious second floor is full of delightful spaces, starting with the atrium above the loft and a railing at its edge overlooking the great room. The variety of vaulted ceilings and nooks gives this upper level charm and character. And 10' ceilings make everything look and feel more spacious. Bedroom 3 (so named because the "away room" could be a bedroom) has four windows grouped together for light and views, and a walk–in closet, while Bedroom 4 has a study nook, an extended space with a barrel ceiling and windows at the end, and a pair of windows above the bed area. Both bedrooms share a good–sized bath that is flanked on either side by attic storage spaces. A door in the walk–in storage room opens to more attic storage above the garage.

The unfinished basement has its own stairs from the garage, making it perfect for mechanical equipment and possibly a large workshop.

Modification Ideas
For smaller lots, you may want to detach and move the garage. For larger families, add a shed dormer for another bedroom upstairs. Replace the fireplace with a TV entertainment center. Turn the laundry into a full bath for bedroom 2 and move the laundry into the garage.
