Description

This elegant home has details reminiscent of the Gothic style and other European influences. The exterior is a combination of stucco and stone, accented with arched windows, wood shutters, brickwork, and copper spires at the roof.

As you enter the foyer from the covered entry porch, a curved stairwell is to the right, a formal dining room is to the left, and a spacious gathering room is straight ahead. Views to the upper floor balcony are seen from the foyer as well as the gathering room. A row of wood posts between the foyer and gathering room are detailed with wooden brackets, which create a series of arched openings. In the gathering room, the arched openings are mimicked in the upper balcony, and the center of the ceiling rises to a gothic arch at the peak. The gathering room is open to the kitchen and breakfast nook, which has bay windows to view the outdoor covered veranda. A pair of doors from the breakfast nook leads to a screened porch, which features a vaulted ceiling with wood brackets and an outdoor grill. In one corner of the kitchen there is a wet bar, with wine racks above that are located in an arched opening. The kitchen accommodates a 6–burner stove, and has a center island with an extended bar for eating. To the left of the foyer is a hall that leads to a two–car garage. A "porte-cochere", which is literally "coach door" in French, connects the two–car garage to a single garage, and provides shelter between the two buildings. Off of the mud hall there are a pantry, a coat closet, built–ins, a powder room, a laundry room, an office, and a secondary stairwell. To the right of the foyer are another coat closet and a master bedroom suite. The bedroom features a sitting area with multiple bay windows, a luxurious bathroom with both a shower and a whirlpool tub, and his/her walk–in closets.

As you climb up the curved stairwell, arched window openings in the stairwell bring you views and natural light. As you reach the upper floor, an oversized landing creates a loft space, and the balconies bring views to the foyer and gathering room below. Right off of the stairwell is a bedroom with three bay windows and a full private bath. Farther down the hall are another bedroom, a shared full bath, and a third bedroom, which has a semi–circle nook with bay windows and a vaulted ceiling at the nook. Beyond the bedrooms are a second laundry room, a game room with a wet bar and a powder room, and a theater with a vaulted ceiling.

Foundation Info
This house was originally designed to have a crawlspace foundation. However, if you prefer a basement or slab foundation, these are fairly simple and inexpensive changes that your builder can often make for you.

Please Note
This house was originally designed for a couple in Charlotte, North Carolina, who (understandably) do not want another house just like theirs built nearby. If you're planning to build within a 50–mile radius of downtown Charlotte, the designer needs to approve the location before he'll grant a copyright release allowing you to legally build the house. Just give us the address or location of your property, via email or phone –– and we'll get back to you right away.

Electronic Format
These plans were drawn using a well–known and highly respected architectural design software program called SoftPlan (version 13). This software can export the same files in .dwg format, so they can also be modified by anyone who uses AutoCAD, which is nearly universal. The CD for this plan includes the files in both SoftPlan and AutoCAD–ready .dwg, as well as in .pdf for easy viewing on your home or office computer.
