Description
Multiple roof gables located at varying heights give this home an attractive and unique exterior, and give a hint to the more intimate spaces that are located inside. Wood cedar shingles along with brick and stone veneer combine to highlight the unusual rooflines, and the exterior walls are punctuated with abundant windows with small paned glass.
The foyer beyond the arched covered entry is open to a formal dining room to the left, the family room straight ahead, and a stairway and coat closet to the right. The living spaces are open to each other, but are delineated by the large framed openings that divide each space. The family room has a central fireplace hearth, flanked by built–ins on either side, and views to the open terrace at the rear. The gourmet kitchen includes a center island with a sink (which frees up lots of counter space) and has direct access to both the sunny casual dining nook at the rear, and the front formal dining room. A mudroom hall from the casual dining space leads to a walk–in pantry, a home office space, a powder room, a laundry room, and a three–car garage.
The right wing of the house is devoted to the master suite. The master bedroom has windows to the rear and side yard, and a French door to the rear terrace. The master bath features two walk–in closets, a private toilet room, two vanity sinks that are separated by a whirlpool tub, and a large shower.
The upstairs landing opens up to a loft space with room for a built–in shelf/desk. Directly off the loft space there is an open game room with two closets. To the right of the game room is Bedroom 2, which has its own full bath and a walk–in closet. Across the hall from the game room is Bedroom 3, which also has a private full bath that is shared with the media room located on the other side of it, and a walk–in closet. Across from the media room is Bedroom 4, which once again has its own private full bath, a very large walk–in closet, and a dormer space that looks out to the rear.
Foundation Info
This house was originally designed to have a crawlspace foundation. However, if you prefer a basement or slab foundation, these are fairly simple and inexpensive changes that your builder can often make for you.
Please Note
This house was originally designed for a couple in Charlotte, North Carolina, who (understandably) do not want another house just like theirs built nearby. If you're planning to build within a 50–mile radius of downtown Charlotte, the designer needs to approve the location before he'll grant a copyright release allowing you to legally build the house. Just give us the address or location of your property, via email or phone –– and we'll get back to you right away.
Electronic Format
These plans were drawn using a well–known and highly respected architectural design software program called SoftPlan (version 13). This software can export the same files in .dwg format, so they can also be modified by anyone who uses AutoCAD, which is nearly universal. The CD for this plan includes the files in both SoftPlan and AutoCAD–ready .dwg, as well as in .pdf for easy viewing on your home or office computer.
