Description

First Floor
From the foyer off the front porch, you can enter the spacious great room to the right, or a home office (that could also function as a third bedroom, or a guest room) on the left. The great room, dining area, and the kitchen are open to each other. Both the great room and the dining space have trayed ceilings that rise to 9' in the center, and the outer wall is comprised almost exclusively of glass. A bay window in the great rooms adds to the light and views, and the deck below it can be used as a spot for reading or snoozing.

The kitchen is separated from the dining table by a large breakfast island with a raised counter on the outer edge that can be used for casual dining and/or serving. The kitchen has a walk–in pantry, plenty of counter space with cabinets above, and a sunny window box behind the sinks. There's also a built–in desk and shelves on one of the pantry walls. A pair of French doors off the dining area open to a large covered porch that would be ideal for entertaining.

A hallway from the living areas passes a full bath that can also be used as a powder room on its way to the master suite and two bedrooms. The master bedroom has a darker area for sleeping in on a Sunday morning, a sunny sitting area with a door that opens to the porch, and a walk–in closet. The bath has a soaking tub beneath both a window and a window box, a separate shower, and turn–around space for someone in a wheelchair (see the dotted circle in the floor plans). There's a clever pass–through beneath the stairs to the attic that provides direct access to the laundry room, which can also be accessed from the hallway that ends at a two–vehicle carport.

Two additional bedrooms – or a single bedroom and an office/study/guest room – are located at the front of the house. There's an optional door between the two rooms, and both enjoy plenty of daylight and views.

Carport & Storage (Optional Garage)
The attached carport allows the family to enter an extra wide corridor with shelf nooks that serve as a catch–all for keys, boots, etc. Garage doors could easily be added to either the front or back. If your lot is narrow, the carport or garage could be moved to the back of the house.

Construction Info
The roof is designed to be stick–framed to allow for the extra large attic storage. The attic is accessed from the carport (or garage) with permanent, full size walk–up stairs. With added insulation just below the roof deck, your items will be stored in semi–conditioned space.

Modification Idea
Construct the roof with trusses to lower costs.
