The Cottage is a shingled cabin designed for the shores of a beautiful harbor on the Maine coast, where it is important to have a house that talks the language of its 19th century neighbors. With its cottage-like appearance and features, as well as its compact shape, it would also work well on many other types of sites.

The unique rooflines of this beautiful home will make it stand out in any neighborhood. The vaulted great room shares an optional two–sided fireplace with the master bedroom, and the entire rear of the house is comprised of windows, providing abundant light and views. The upper floor is designed for flexibility. The delightful staircase leading up to the reading loft is lined with shelves and openings. If you wish to take advantage of its passive solar design, the front of this house should face north.

This split-level design allows two walk-out bedrooms on the lower level and a master bedroom situated at tree-house level. Although just a tad over 2,000 square feet, the sloping ceilings and open floor plan create a spacious interior. Carefully placed windows on all walls allow a continuous stream of light throughout the day.
