Solstice 2 is a partially earth–bermed home, with half of the main living floor tucked snuggly into the north hill. The exterior is a creative mix of stone with stucco accents and a metal roof. The interior still has the same wonderful open feel of the original Solstice home. The unique front entry is set at the midpoint of the two levels, at the landing, with stairs leading down to the main level and up to the second floor.

Small scale spaces and lots of contact with the outside distinguish this house that was designed to sit in a forest of low to moderate height Jack pines, on a slope above a granite quarry. The clients were a professional couple, who wanted a small house that would be intimate and connected with the natural beauty all around them-and one with enough variety of spaces that they could survive the long Maine winters without tripping over each other.
