Portland Craftsman

Architect: Brian Hanlen
Brooks Design / Build, Inc.

Total Sq. Ft.: 2158  Bedrooms: 3  Baths: 2.5

This is a classic Craftsman house with a distinctive exterior and a warm and welcoming interior. There's a 10'–deep covered porch at the front, and a large patio nestled into one side. The living room has a centrally–located fireplace and excellent views to the front and one side. The ceilings here and throughout the living spaces on the main level are set at a lofty 10'. The master suite's on the upper level, along with two additional bedrooms, and if you choose to build the basement you can have another bedroom suite along with a spacious family room.

Natural Habitat

Architect: David Arkin & Anni Tilt
Arkin Tilt Architects

Total Sq. Ft.: 1860  Bedrooms: 4  Baths: 2.0

This unique straw bale home manages to provide four bedrooms in 1,860 sf of living space. Featured in books and magazines, and the recipient of a prestigious award, this is a truly extraordinary house. Clerestory windows allow natural light to flood the interior, and tall bookshelves line the walls separating the living spaces from the bedrooms. An optional two–sided fireplace can be enjoyed from both the living room and an outdoor patio.

Simple Single Story

Architect: Debra Coleman
Passive Solar Designs

Total Sq. Ft.: 1879  Bedrooms: 3  Baths: 2.5

This is a very economical house to build – the shape is a perfect rectangle; it has a very simple crossing roof; and thanks to its efficient use of space, there's room for up to 3 bedrooms in just 1,879 sf of living space. However, as you'll see from the photos and the floor plan, this simple house has details that make it as attractive as it is functional. If you use scissors trusses to support the roof, the ceiling vaults to 12' down the centerline; and the house provides great views to the rear.

Narrow Lot Cottage

Architect: Michael J. Eckhardt

Total Sq. Ft.: 1755  Bedrooms: 2  Baths: 2.0

This home is a quaint one–story cottage design, and its narrow width – just 30' across – makes it ideal for a narrow lot. Its features include an open floor plan with a vaulted ceiling in the living room, a large master suite with a vaulted ceiling in the bedroom, and a cozy family room on the lower level.

Radius Roof House

Architect: Travis Gaylord Young, AIA
Studio Momentum Architects

Total Sq. Ft.: 1852  Bedrooms: 3  Baths: 2.0

This 1,850 square foot, 3 bedroom, 2 bath home was originally developed to fit on smaller inner city lots. The scale and proportion are similar to turn of century homes, but the styling is thoroughly modern.
