Carolina Craftsman Cottage

Architect: William J. Addison, AIA
Addison Rainey Architects

Total Sq. Ft.: 3025  Bedrooms: 4  Baths: 3.5

This Craftsman classic was designed for a family in the Carolinas, but it would fit into almost any neighbor anywhere you'd like to live. A 10'–deep covered porch spans the entire front of the house, while an even deeper porch spans the rear. The upper level includes a large master suite along with two additional bedrooms, and there's another bedroom on the main level for guests or older family members, which could of course be used for other purposes if you wish.

Coastal Delight

Architect: William J. Addison, AIA
Addison Rainey Architects

Total Sq. Ft.: 2670  Bedrooms: 4  Baths: 4.0

This charming coastal home has 10'–deep covered porches at both the front and the rear – on both the main and the upper levels! There's a bedroom suite on the main level that would work perfectly for guests or older family members, while upstairs there's a master suite that enjoys the covered porch at the front, and two additional bedrooms that open to the one at the rear. Every room on both floors of this unique house has wrap around views. There's also an office on a third level with views to either side, and above it there's a wonderful cupola with a vaulted ceiling and views in all four directions. No wonder this house received a "Best in American Living" award.

Hillside House

Architect: R W Knight
Knight Architecture

Total Sq. Ft.: 1647  Bedrooms: 3  Baths: 2.5

This is a small house built within a 36'x36' outline, but everything about its look and feel is unique. It was designed for a steep lot, but it can work just as well on a flat piece of property. There are views in all four directions, and decks that span the rear and one side connect to a screened porch at the corner. Skylights allow natural light to fill the master bath and closet on the main level, as well as a charming office space/study on the upper level. Both bedrooms on the second floor have access to a small roof deck.

Waterfront Retreat

Architect: William J. Addison, AIA
Addison Rainey Architects

Total Sq. Ft.: 3513  Bedrooms: 3  Baths: 3.5

An 8' to 13'–deep covered porch encircles the entire house, which was clearly designed for a family that likes to spend a lot of time outdoors! There are even two private decks on the upper level. The ceiling in the living areas soars to two stories, with a bridge separating the living & dining areas that looks down to these spaces and provides access to a wide rear deck. All the ceilings that are not vaulted are set at a lofty 10' on both the main and upper levels.

Mountain Gable

Architect: Bruce Millard
Studio of Sustainable Design

Total Sq. Ft.: 2525  Bedrooms: 3  Baths: 2.5

The interior of this handsome mountain home features wood detailing throughout. As you face this Craftsman–style house, the gable over the entry is repeated twice on the left as the rooflines step back. All of the rooms on the main level have excellent views, especially to the rear, and nearly all have ceilings that vault to a dramatic 13'. This house has been featured in three magazines, including a special edition of Fine Homebuilding.
