This home has many of the exterior characteristics we associate with classic farmhouses – a covered wraparound porch beneath a low–pitched roof, hipped dormers projecting from a simple roof over the main portion of the house, and an aura of understated elegance. Unlike farmhouses in the past, however, this home features a master suite on the main level, an open floor plan, and an optional elevator serving all 3 floors. If you choose to build the basement it can be easily modified into an in–law apartment.

Simple Craftsman Farmhouse is a charming sun–inspired home that blends easily into any environment. Its basic roofline is punctuated by different sizes and types of gables and dormers, both front and back, and its numerous windows and glazed doors provide abundant light and views. Shingles, siding and stone combine beautifully on its unique exterior. It can be a passive solar house if it faces north. Kitchen, dining, and great room – which has a ceiling that vaults to 19' – are all open to each other, and all (along with the master bedroom) enjoy terrific views to the rear. There are two bedrooms upstairs, and another room large enough for any of several uses including a fourth bedroom.

Craftsman detailing adds to the appearance of this classic farm–style home. The master bedroom and all of the main living spaces enjoy terrific views to the rear, as do the three additional bedrooms on the second level. There's also a deck that spans the entire width of the house at the rear. The great room ceiling soars to 19' in the middle, and all the living spaces are open to each other.

This handsome farmhouse would fit well in nearly any region or neighborhood. The master suite is located on the main level, and upstairs there are three additional bedrooms, along with a large rec room. An 8'–deep covered porch spans the entire front of the house before wrapping around one side, and there's another at the rear off the great room. The garage has space for two vehicles and a good sized shop, and there's space above it for a bonus room and attic storage.

This is a classic farmhouse in look and style, but with a more modern floor plan. The plans call for stained clapboard and a bit of stucco on the exterior, and fiberglass shingles on the roof, but you could of course clad it with anything you like. Its features include a screened porch off the dining area, a home office that could be used for other purposes, and a private roof deck off the master bedroom.
