Natural Habitat received the Western Home Award from "Sunset" magazine, and has been featured in numerous books and magazines. The architects, David Arkin & Anni Tilt, a husband and wife team, conceived of and designed this home to give the residents a sense of being at home in nature.



Tucson

This unique passive solar home radiates off a circular outdoor room, and has diverse indoor and outdoor spaces. It has many Southwest inspired elements, and incorporates a number of alternative materials and elements, including straw bale filled steel frame and rastra walls, radiant heat barrier, solar hot water panels, and a photovoltaic system.



Gatehouse

Gatehouse is a one bedroom passive solar strawbale guest cottage. High ceilings, shed–style roof and curved layout make this an unusual combination of natural earthy materials and modern techno–architecture.



Coronado

This strawbale house was originally designed around a prominent oak tree, resulting in a spatially interesting floor plan that has a passive solar orientation for winter heat gain. Natural round wood columns and timber elements grace the exterior.



Los Arcos

Los Arcos is a straw bale house that has a Southwestern feel. It is built with straw bale filled steel frame and rastra walls, and has an exterior of both stucco and stone veneer. Arched openings, niches, and window seats are carved from the walls, creating comfortable interior spaces.
